Temple B’nai Israel celebrated the end of Shabbat in true Lakes Region style with a breathtaking sunset cruise on Lake Winnipesaukee.  Rabbi Jan Katz and our Cantorial Soloist Melody Funk led the Havdalah Ceremony that marks the symbolic end of Shabbat and ushers in the new week.  To accommodate the rules of the Winnipesaukee Spirit, Rabbi Katz creatively adapted the traditional Havdalah rituals. Battery-operated tapers replaced the customary three-wick candle, while individual spice bags infused the air with the sweet fragrance of orange and cloves. The enchanting atmosphere was further enhanced by the melodic tunes of the 60s and 70s, performed by our own John McArthur.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow on the lake, we shared in a truly special moment of connection and community. We extend our sincere thanks to the Jewish Federation of New Hampshire for their generous support that helped to bring this special experience to the greater Jewish community of New Hampshire.
