The Left Side of the Page: Exploring the Readings of Mishkan T’fillah and Mishkan HaNefesh

Presented by Rabbi Dan Danson
7 pm, on Zoom – Contact us for Zoom link
Through these past few years more than one person at TBI has said to me, “when it comes to services, I’m a left side of the page person.” Essentially, they’re saying that they find that the English readings on the left side of the prayerbook page, across from the Hebrew, resonate with them more than do the traditional prayers. The left side writings can be interpretive versions of the facing prayer, or poems and rabbinical writings, ancient and modern. They are meant to voice a range of spiritual perspectives such as theological doubt, the awe nature inspires in us, social justice, and a sense of God’s presence.
Participants are asked to select a couple of “left side” readings to share at the session, ones that resonate for you. You can access Mishkan T’fillah as a flipbook Mishkan T’fillah and the service we do the most often starts on p. 120. Mishkan Hanefesh is no longer available online, but I suspect many of us still have a copy at home. I’ve posted a thematic guide to the readings on the TBI website to help you select a reading from this link
