Laconia Human Relations Commission Celebration in Honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

January 15 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Rabbi Jan Katz has been invited to speak at this event.  Members of TBI are encouraged to attend.

The Laconia Human Relations Committee is sponsoring a celebration of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., honoring his life and legacy, on January 15th  at the Belknap Mill, starting at 2 pm.

This year’s celebration will include a month-long exhibit in the Belknap Art Gallery of local artists sharing their original creations inspired by Dr. King’s ministry towards racial equality and social justice for all. Local artists, whose works are in this exhibit, have been asked by the Human Relations Committee to share their thoughts about their works at the January 15th celebration. Each will share about their artistic creation and its connection to Dr. King.  The artists speaking at the Celebration are Mike Durkee, Elaine Morrison, Chloe Sofronas, Jaylene Bengston, Ian Raymond, A. E. Brown, Dick Smith and Phyllis Bodwell.

In addition, at the celebration on January 15 there will be a viewing of Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech, as well as diverse cultural food and refreshments. The Human Relations Committee is excited about this event and hopeful that many in the Lakes Region will come!

All of the art will remain on display in the Belknap Mill Gallery from January 6th to January 31st.  The public is encouraged to come see the artwork anytime during the month. The Belknap Mill operating hours are Monday-Friday, 9 am to 4 pm and Saturday 9 am to 3 pm.
